CCM/MKS

The fermentation of Corn Cob Mix (CCM) and Corncob Scrap (MKS) plays an important role in ensuring the quality of your silage. A controlled process, supported by specialized preservatives, helps prevent mold and scalding. Sealing the silage quickly and efficiently allows the lactic acid bacteria to do their job, keeping the silage stable and maintaining its nutritional value. Thus, your cattle receive feed of consistent quality while realizing cost savings through reduced losses.

Successful preservation of your feed

Proper preservation of Corn Cob Mix (CCM) and Corncob Scrap (MKS) is essential to maintaining the nutritional value and quality of your livestock feed. CCM and MKS require a precise approach, with the right dry matter, firm compaction and airtight covering playing crucial roles. Effective use of preservatives and tight ensiling techniques will prevent losses due to mold or scalding. With a properly preserved CCM or MKS silage, you offer your livestock a high-quality source of energy that contributes to efficient and sustainable operations.

Frequently asked questions about our silage preservation products

Signs of a poorly preserved grass silage are mold growth, a strong odor of ammonia or butanoic acid, and a noticeable rise in temperature in the silage. An altered color or decreased intake by cattle can also indicate preservation problems.

You can prevent heating in corn silage by pressing the silage well, sealing it airtight and cutting the cut surface tightly daily. In addition, use preservatives such as lactic acid bacteria to support fermentation processes.

For CCM/MKS, it is important to work with a dry matter content between 65% and 70%. Press the product firmly into the silo or bag, use a suitable preservative and cover it airtight. Quick and effective ensiling prevents mold growth and scalding.

Make sure the mixer truck is regularly maintained and that blades are sharp. Add products in the correct order: dry products first, then silage, and finally wet or liquid components. Uniform mixing time is essential for a balanced ration.

Prevent problems with the top layer, such as mold or drying out, by covering the pit airtight with a plastic film, preferably with a sand or soil layer above it. Check regularly for damage and repair any holes immediately to avoid air entrapment.

A tight and straight cutting surface is crucial. Use a sharp knife or cutting machine and limit the exposed area by continuing to cut the silage daily. Be sure not to cut off more feed than what is used on the same day.

The unique challenges in CCM and MKS conservation

Corn Cob Mix (CCM) and Corncob Scrap (MKS) present specific challenges in the preservation process. Due to the higher energy value and lower structure of these silages, it is important to minimize heating and mold. Effective compaction, proper drought measurement and the use of airtight film help address these challenges. With the right techniques and tools, you can ensure the stability of your CCM or MKS silage and ensure efficient storage and handling.
